Evanole VM
EvanoleVM is a Linux system that comes with all the tools for our courses installed and set up for you. It's designed to be as beginner-friendly as possible while being a powerful resource for any examiner. It contains hundreds of open-source tools and supports Windows-only applications via WINE. Also included is a simplified method of sharing files between your host computer and the VM itself, with shared read-only and read-write folders easily accessible from the desktop or command line. On top of all this, EvanoleVM has bidirectional clipboard sync for seamless use with any forensic software you may already have on your computer.
EvanoleVM is a modified version of Tsurugi Linux 2024.1, a popular DFIR-focused Linux distribution with a custom writeblocking kernel and a huge variety of preinstalled forensic software.
Check out our free Evanole VM course for a tour of setting up and using the VM.
NOTE: You must click the Open Link button, not copy URL text
EvanoleVM is totally free, provided "AS IS" and released under GNU General Public License without warranty of any kind. All tools preinstalled are free* but some are not open-source. The property is of their own developers and you can find all copyright information inside one of two places: 1. The "/usr/share/doc" directory. 2. Each class folder on the desktop has a LICENSES subfolder. Feel free to inform us (at evanolevm@hexordia.com) if we forgot your license and we will add it quickly in the new releases. * There are a few (only one, as of now) non-free tools included, but not installed. The desktop icon simply downloads the application for you and starts a free trial. This was done with the express permission of the respective tool authors for use in EvanoleVM.
Absolutely! If you are a tool author or know of any Free and Open Source tools that you may want to see included, let us know at evanolevm@hexordia.com. We'd be happy to include it in the next release, but the tools in the class-specific Desktop folders will correspond to the tools used in our classes, however, to avoid clutter.
