This course provides a walkthrough on downloading, setting up, and running EvanoleVM!
EvanoleVM is a Linux system that comes with all the tools needed for our courses installed and set up for you. It is designed to be as beginner-friendly as possible while being a powerful resource for any examiner. It contains a massive variety of open-source tools and additionally supports Windows-only applications via WINE. Also included is a simplified method of sharing files between your host computer and the VM itself, with a shared read-only and read-write folder easily accessible from the desktop or command line. On top of all this, EvanoleVM has bidirectional clipboard sync so that you can use it seamlessly with any forensic software you may already have on your computer.
EvanoleVM is a modded version of Tsurugi Linux 2024.1, a popular DFIR-focused Linux distribution with a custom kernel that prevents automatic writing to removable media and a huge variety of preinstalled forensic software.
